About

Robert Fogel's art explores “Association.” How do line, form, composition, color, lighting and title create an association with a place or event? What is the minimum required for the viewer to evoke an association to a memory? My shaped painting “Zion Canyon,” for instance, consisting of four box shapes painted just two colors evokes memories for me of visiting Zion National Park. A title is not needed as the scene is immediately recognizable to me from my numerous visits. It may evoke a different memory for other viewers depending on their experiences.
