Pictured above is the source of inspiration for my art, the Great Basin. It is a vast, mostly empty, colllection of dry alkaline postglacial lake beds that lack external drainage, and sagebrush flats all separated by mountain ranges supporting aspen and conifer forests. The quiet isolation invites introspection, the star filled nights awe, the wildlife and violent storms respect. History is documented in glacial features, petroglyphs, abandoned homesteads, historic trails, old roads, mines both old and new, overgrazing, introduced species and fire scars. You can feel your soul soaking it all up, relaxing in the quiet, expansive vistas and surrounding beauty.
